In a world where we are constantly bombarded by the media and our own thinking about how to be happier, healthier, and improve well-being, it can be extremely difficult to see that we may have it all wrong.
I opened my email this morning and I was hit by “5 mistakes you are…”, “6 Reasons you are…”, “10 Tips to…”… The funny part about it was that most of it was conflicting with each other. So sitting there dazed and confused about the battering I just took about others telling me about how I’m doing it all wrong and how my life, health, and happiness could be better, it occurred to me. What if all this chasing health, happiness, and well-being stuff was all wrong? What if health, happiness, and well-being were actually pursuing us? What if we stopped the pursuit of happiness and well-being and got pursued?
As a health and well-being coach and practitioner, I see evidence everyday supporting the fact that our health and happiness are innate and that it is only our thinking that blocks us from the experience of well-being. The chasing, the judging, the hyper self-awareness (or these days often referred to as mindfulness) are the very things that block our innate health and well-being from being expressed. The result is that we feel we need more to be more and are filled with should haves and could haves.
What if we were tripping over health, happiness, and well-being coming from within in pursuit of what we thought was out there?
What if the feeling that something was missing or a low mood or a health challenge was actually a health, happiness, and well-being check engine light. Not telling you to run life faster, to do more, have more in order to be more, but to simply look within to provide you with an insight, an opportunity to see what is available to you beyond your personal thinking.
Take today to STOP the search and see what is already there for you. Notice the fact that your body circulates blood, fights bacteria, builds and rebuilds tissue, fights infection, grows new tissue, craves ONLY the nutrients it needs for health and wellness. Notice how thoughts come and go like clouds. Notice how you can wake up in a low mood and within 30 min forget what you were upset about. Notice that it takes far more effort to be who you think you need to be and no effort to be yourself. Take today to stop the search and you might just get rear ended by health, happiness, and well-being pursuing you.
